Bosch and Powercell are developing key components for hydrogen fuel cells designed to power cars, after backing off building electric batteries.
They offer a longer range and can be refueled about as quickly as petrol- or diesel-powered vehicle.
At the same time, hydrogen cars boast some of the advantages of battery-electric, including powerful acceleration, silent operation and no emissions at the point of use except water vapor.
